Pastoral care at Toowong Uniting Church aims to foster a church community where every person seeks to care for each other and our neighbours, and where everyone may grow and share in God’s love. Our care and connections with each other come from the teachings of Jesus:

Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must
love one another. By this everyone will know that you are
my disciples, if you love one another.
— John 13: 34-35

Loving each other and loving our neighbours is at the heart of our faith. HEART, the pastoral care framework at Toowong Uniting Church, embraces sharing the love and light of Christ and the warmth of our campfire church within TUC and in the wider community.

Everybody in the congregation is engaged in caring for one another; however different levels of support are required to respond to different levels of concern and complexity.

We use a ‘traffic light’ model to give structure and sustainability in helping to maintain the emotional and spiritual wellbeing of the life of our congregation.

GREEN

At this level, we implement HEART mainly within the congregation by getting to know and trust each other, through worship, fellowship, understanding, engaging, communicating, and praying for and with each other.

ORANGE

This team embraces HEART by supporting immediate needs that may require regular connections over finite periods of time.

Actions may include providing a meal, visiting, prayer and staying connected.

RED

This group working closely together, implements HEART where pastoral care involves supporting and caring for people with more complex needs.

Needs may be referred to professional carers where possible.
